SUMMARY:PROJECT FREEWAY
DESCRIPTION:As an initial venture into a new program\, from June-August 2018\, DiverseWorks will engage in conversations and visits to help us to identify community partners and artists in the Alief area of Houston. Team Members will work to establish relationships with artists\, community members\, and organizations working in this neighborhood and find ways for potential future collaborations. We are particularly interested in creating platforms that will question the familiar and expose the unfamiliar\, and provide pathways for artists to connect across geographic/cultural/economic/artistic boundaries. Project Freeway was developed in response to the rapid growth and diversification of the city of Houston and DiverseWorks’ desire to support innovative artists’ projects that engage all Houstonians in the arts and urgent social issues in ways that contribute to a more socially progressive city. \nProject Freeway is supported by the New Pathways|Houston Incubating Innovation program\, a partnership between EmcArts and the Houston Arts Alliance\, with funding from the Houston Endowment.
